Job Description

Job Summary:
The Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) is a vital support role for all clients within the treatment center. Although not providing direct therapy services, the BHT is responsible for offering overall support to clients and assisting staff as needed across a variety of tasks.

Duties, Responsibilities, & Essential Job Functions:
  • Provide direct support to clients during treatment sessions, including transportation, peer support, and other supportive services within the BHT scope.
  • Monitor client progress and report any concerns or changes in behavior to the clinical team promptly.
  • Assist in the coordination and implementation of individualized treatment plans.
  • Ensure client safety and well-being by enforcing center policies and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date client records and documentation in compliance with organizational standards.
  • Collaborate with the clinical team to develop and adjust individualized treatment plans.
  • Conduct drug testing and monitor clients for any signs of substance use.
  • Provide crisis intervention as necessary, ensuring a safe environment.
  • Support affiliate recovery housing needs, including transport, shopping, random drug screenings, house meetings, and chore completion.
  • Provide individual case management services to support client engagement, retention, and compliance with treatment services
  • Assist clients in understanding program expectations as they relate to treatment participation
  • Support navigation of treatment-related systems, documentation platforms, and scheduling
  • Identify and address barriers to treatment participation, including coordination with housing and support services
  • Document all services in accordance with Medicaid, OMHAS, and agency policies

Other Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Assist in clinical interventions and participate in client staffing when required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the clinical or executive team.

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of a Certified Recovery Specialist (CRS) training program or equivalent is preferred.
  • 1-2 years of experience in a behavioral health or substance use treatment setting.
  • Current certification in CPR and First Aid.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and other relevant laws and regulations.

  • Emergency and Safety: Understand and follow emergency procedures, provide first aid and CPR as needed, and maintain a secure environment for clients and staff.
  • Overdose Prevention: Recognize signs of overdose and respond appropriately, including using naloxone and other reversal medications.
  • Suicide Risk and Prevention: Recognize signs of suicide risk and respond using trained prevention strategies.
  • Cultural Competency: Effectively work with clients from diverse cultural backgrounds, adapting approaches as needed.
  • Communication Skills: Communicate clearly and effectively with clients, using active listening and providing concise feedback.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Identify and resolve issues in the treatment process using critical and creative thinking.
  • Organizational Skills: Manage time and resources efficiently, maintain client caseloads, and complete necessary documentation.
  • Flexibility: Adapt to changing client needs and handle unexpected situations effectively.
  • Self-Awareness: Recognize personal strengths and limitations, using self-awareness to improve practice.
  • Empathy: Understand and empathize with clients, offering supportive and non-judgmental care.
  • Respect: Treat clients with dignity and respect, honoring their unique experiences and perspectives.
  • Professionalism: Maintain a professional demeanor, uphold ethical standards, and dress appropriately for the setting.

Physical Demands:
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to walk up and down stairs during emergency drills or situations.
